Internship fair to connect students to area organizations Sept. 24

Syracuse University Career Services will host the Local Internship Fair on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in Panasci Lounge (upstairs in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center). The event will provide students with an opportunity to connect with local employers to discuss internship offerings in the Syracuse area.

More than 80 businesses, nonprofits and other organizations will participate, including the American Red Cross, Citadel Broadcasting, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Metropolitan Development Association, Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center and The Tech Garden.

Students will have the chance to discuss local internship opportunities for the fall, spring and summer semesters. Supporting the University’s vision of strengthening ties with its surrounding community, the Local Internship Fair will help students identify opportunities to engage with the Syracuse area in a meaningful way.

“Many of our students may not realize the abundance of opportunities to gain career experience right here locally,” says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. “An internship during the academic year can provide students with a way to take the skills that they are learning in the classroom and immediately apply them in a work setting.”

A full list of employers attending the Local Internship Fair can be found on the Career Services website, http://careerservices.syr.edu.

The Local Internship Fair is part of Syracuse University Career Week 2009, which includes the Career Fair at the Carrier Dome and several other career-related events. For more information about the Local Internship Fair, contact Jennifer Pluta at 443-3616, jrpluta@syr.edu. Or visit Career Services, Suite 235 of the Schine Student Center.
