A meeting of the White House Task Force on Middle Class Families held yesterday at the Schine Student Center and chaired by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. LAW ’68 was reported on by the Associated Press, Post-Standard, Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Reuters, Bloomberg News, WHAM-TV in Rochester, WROC-TV in Rochester, the Rochester Business Journal, the Chronicle of Higher Education, InsideHigherEd.com, CNYCentral, WSYR-TV , WSYR-AM, and WRVO. The event was carried live by News 10 Now.

The Post-Standard, WSYR-TV , and News 10 Now covered yesterday’s Martin Luther King School visit by Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan to learn more about the Say Yes to Education program.

The announcement of a $1 million grant to the Say Yes to Education program was covered by CNYCentral, News 10 Now, and WSYR-AM. State senators Malcolm Smith and David Valesky participated in the news conference at the Blodgett School.

Chancellor Nancy Cantor was quoted in the New York Times on the new Discovery television series “Curiosity: The Questions of Our Life.”

Lynn Brann, assistant professor of nutrition in the College of Human Ecology, was quoted in the Florida Sun-Sentinel on a new cookbook, “The Sneaky Chef to the Rescue.”

Vincent Tinto, distinguished professor in the School of Education, was quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education in an article on the graduation rates of college students at public universities.

J. Albert Uy, assistant professor of biology in The College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in a Science Magazine article on the speciation of two South American antbirds.

United Press International reported on the SU research story of the discovery a second molecular switch within the Mixed Lineage Leukemia protein complex. The research was led by Michael Cosgrove, assistant professor of biology in The College of Arts and Sciences.

Research by Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) was cited in an Associated Press article on access to legal representation for immigrant families.

The Light Work exhibit of Barry Anderson’s video and sound installation, “Ectoplasmic Response” was previewed by the Syracuse New Times.

The Post-Standard reported on the third annual University Community Harvest Farmers Market series, which begins again on Sept. 18.
