Pulse Performing Arts Series produces special season preview to appear in Aug. 23 Post-Standard; 2009-10 season to be announced Aug. 24August 17, 2009Jaime Winne Alvarez jlwinne@syr.edu

Syracuse University’s Pulse Performing Arts Series, presented by the Division of Student Affairs, has partnered with The Post-Standard to distribute a full-color insert that previews the upcoming 2009-10 season offerings. The insert will appear in the newspaper’s Sunday, Aug. 23, edition, reaching about 30,000 people in the greater Syracuse area.

All first-year SU students will receive a copy of the publication on Saturday, Aug. 29, during Pulse’s downtown orientation event; Feel the Pulse of Syracuse (about 4,000 inserts). An additional 4,000 inserts will be distributed to SU faculty and staff the week of Aug. 31. The complete 2009-10 Pulse season will be officially announced on Monday, Aug. 24.

The two-page insert includes information on and photos of acts that will appear in the 2009-10 season, as well as information on the Connective Corridor and a specially coded map of cultural and arts offerings in Armory Square. It also includes a list of Pulse Partner ticket offers for SU students available for performances at Syracuse Stage, SU Drama, Syracuse Opera, Famous Artists and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (tickets are subject to availability), in addition to a complete listing of Pulse partners.

The Pulse Performing Arts Series provides SU undergraduates and, in turn, the Central New York community, with out-of-classroom opportunities to attend and participate in programs, performances, exhibitions and events in the performing and visual arts. Pulse is a model program, recognized for quality, diversity, innovation and collaboration, while it celebrates and expands the cultural climate of Syracuse University.

The Pulse Performing Arts Series seeks to raise the caliber of cultural programming while increasing the number of participating students. It programs the best offerings of local arts organizations with performances of internationally renowned visiting artists.

Tickets to Pulse events are available through the Schine Student Center Box Office, (315) 443-4517. New discount passes for the general public, SU faculty/staff and SU students will be available this season. Depending on the level pass, packages include Pulse series performances, VIP seating and invitations to post-performance receptions. Complete ticket and pass information will be announced as part of the 2009-10 season announcement on Aug. 24.
