On Sunday, May 10, Syracuse University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) will hold joint Commencement exercises at the Carrier Dome. The student procession begins at 9:30 a.m. U.S. Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a 1968 graduate of SU College of Law, is the 2009 Commencement speaker; his address is open to the public.

Doors will open at 7:15 a.m. Due to anticipated record attendance, increased traffic and security measures, guests should plan their visit accordingly. Metal detectors will be used at every entrance, and everyone will be screened upon entry.

Visitors should not bring large bags (i.e., backpacks, duffel bags, large shopping bags) into the Dome. All purses, binocular cases and camera cases will be opened and inspected. Trash cans will not be available outside the Dome. Prohibited items include firearms, explosives, fireworks, air horns, balls, balloons, banners, beach balls and other inflatables, coolers, confetti, laser pointers, noise makers, electronic instruments, promotional items, signs (larger than 2 feet tall and 18 inches wide), food or beverage (except for medical reasons or infants), animals or knives or tools of any kind.

Members of the public wishing to attend must enter the Dome through Gates G, H, J, K, L, M, N and P. Seating will be restricted to designated areas in the upper levels. For a map of seating areas in the Dome, visit http://commencement.syr.edu.

PARKING: There is free parking, space permitting, in SU’s Harrison, Lehman, Manley and Skytop lots, and the University Avenue and Booth garages. Shuttles will run regularly to and from the University Avenue Garage, Manley and Skytop beginning at 7 a.m. For a map, see http://commencement.syr.edu.

WEBCAST: A live webcast of the ceremony will be available at http://video.syr.edu/. Viewers will need to have Flash video player installed on their system. Flash player can be downloaded at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer.

TELEVISION: WSYR-TV and News 10 Now are planning to carry the majority of Commencement, including Biden’s speech, live beginning at 9:30 a.m. WSYR-TV will re-air their coverage on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on digital channel 9.2 (Time Warner Cable Channel 890).
