More than 65 students were honored as cadets of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) as Syracuse University hosted the 91st Annual Chancellor’s Review and Awards Ceremony April 9 in the Carrier Dome. Held in honor of SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor, the review recognizes cadets who have shown exemplary achievement throughout the year.

Cantor presided as U.S. Air Force Col. Suzann Hensley and U.S. Army Lt. Col. Susan Hardwick led the review. Army and Air Force ROTC cadets from SU and other area colleges and universities were reviewed and celebrated.

A special portion of the ceremony celebrated the induction of retired Gen. Edward C. Meyer, retired Col. Joseph S. Lahnstein ’70, retired Lt. Col. Paul J. Chernauskas ’69 and John A. and Dean Emerita Marion R.W. Meyer G’55 into the SU Army ROTC Stalwart Battalion Alumni Hall of Fame, established in 1997 to honor graduates of the program who have distinguished themselves with their military and civilian achievements.

The Gen. Edward C. Meyer Leadership Award, presented to Thomas Wichman; the Professor John A. Meyer Leadership Excellence Award, presented to James Powers; the Superior Cadet Award, presented to James Gibbs, Alexander Hart, Garrett Stone and Wichman; the Harvey S. Smith Award, presented to Christopher Curran and Sean Ferris; the George C. Marshall ROTC Award, presented to Wichman; the Generals George C. Marshall and Henry “Hap” Arnold Five Star Award, presented to Powers; and the Professor of Aerospace Studies Scholastic Achievement Award, presented to James Graves, Son Lee, Powers and Zachary West.

Also, the Commandant of Cadets Award, presented to Christopher Weed; the NCO Award, presented to Brandon Joyce and Jennifer Lavita; the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Honor Certificate Award, presented to Keriann DeLorme; the Nursing Excellence Coin, presented to Sarah Keller; the Air Force Association Award, presented to Jessica Wood; the American Veterans Award, presented to Daniel Sellon and Chris Strain; the American Legion General Military Excellence Award, presented to Matthew Berit, Amanda Cookman, Kathleen Hope, Jordan LaPlante, Brian Pearson, Kyle Seifert, Derek Turndahl and Wood; the American Legion William P. Tolley Scholastic Award, presented to Malcolm Adler, Kevin Chapla, Ferris, Graves, Mary Hope, Lee, Logan O’Brien and West; the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Award, presented to Kendra Fiveash; and, the AUSA Military History Award, presented to Timothy Kingston.
