SU participates in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2009 Great Colleges to Work for ProgramMarch 26, 2009Jaime Winne Alvarez jlwinne@syr.edu

Syracuse University is participating in the 2009 Great Colleges to Work for Program sponsored by The Chronicle of Higher Education. Now in its second year, the Great Colleges Program recognizes institutions that have created exceptional work environments.

The program is modeled after Fortune Magazine’s popular Best Places to Work issue, with one key difference: top institutions will be recognized, but not ranked, in more than 20 categories. In addition to having the opportunity for national recognition, the University will benefit from the program’s national benchmark data.

Part of the program involves an employee survey distributed to a random sample of SU’s full-time faculty, administrators and professional staff. Invitations will be e-mailed to the random sample of participants on Friday, March 27. Everyone who is invited to complete the survey is encouraged to participate.

The results of the survey will be factored into the overall scoring process that ultimately determines the recognized institutions. The Chronicle will publish the findings this summer in a special academic workplace supplement. The University will also receive a report that summarizes responses to the survey questions.

The survey is confidential and designed specifically for higher education. It measures the strength of certain organizational competencies and relationships that most directly impact and influence an institution’s culture. Full participation and honest feedback is critical to the assessment process.

The survey will be processed by ModernThink LLC, a leading research and consulting firm specializing in organization culture and workplace excellence. ModernThink will manage all aspects of the survey process and ultimately perform the analysis that will determine which institutions will be recognized.

More information about the survey and the 2009 Great Colleges to Work for Program is available at http://chroniclegreatcolleges.com/content/view/9/28/.
