Christopher Sedore has been named vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Syracuse University, as announced by Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina. Sedore has most recently served as interim vice president for information technology and chief information officer. He has also been named to the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

As vice president for information technology, Sedore is responsible for SU’s Information Technology and Services (ITS) department, which provides central technology support and services for the academic and administrative functions of the University. ITS’ portfolio includes the campus network and Internet connectivity, enterprise academic and administrative systems, information technology security, telecommunications, and telephone and walk-in service centers. ITS is jointly overseen by Spina and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Louis G. Marcoccia.

In addition to leading the central computing organization, as CIO Sedore has the responsibility to provide and promote cost effective and strategic applications of information technology at the University; oversee IT disaster recovery, security and privacy; and ensure that the University makes appropriate technology investments to support teaching, research, learning and administration.

“Chris has performed his interim responsibilities in a first-rate manner showing great judgment, strong management abilities and exceptional vision,” says Spina. “Throughout his tenure, he has shown that he is both a strong leader and collaborator. Chancellor Cantor, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Louis G. Marcoccia and I believe that Chris is the ideal choice to be vice president for information technology and chief information officer.”

Sedore’s leadership in IT at SU began in 1994. He served first in the Maxwell School as manager of network services, then as advanced technology director and finally as director of the Information and Computing Technology group. Sedore joined ITS in 2005 to become SU’s director of network and systems management and chief technology strategist. He was promoted to associate chief information officer in 2007.

Sedore’s work has focused primarily on the management and application of technology. He has contributed to the development of open-source operating systems and network applications, and he has worked on the broader application of technology to collaboration, education and research with University partners in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Israel, Italy and Peru.
