Ritz-Carlton senior vice president Bruce Himelstein to visit Newhouse School April 2March 12, 2009Wendy S. Loughlinwsloughl@syr.edu

Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will host Bruce Himelstein, senior vice president of sales and marketing for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., on Thursday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. He will speak on “Who’s the Customer?” The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.

Himelstein, who is based in Chevy Chase, Md., is currently guiding the Ritz-Carlton through a period of growth and evolution, as the company expands across Asia, changing aesthetics of hotel design and initiatives in marketing and communication.

Himelstein began his 26-year career as a bellman and has held various positions in sales and marketing, including as a senior vice president of sales for Marriott International. He is a past chairman of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International and a member of the Luxury Institute Advisory Board. He received the 2007 American Marketing Association-DC Hall of Fame Award. He holds a B.A. in communications from the SUNY College at Geneseo.
