When the renowned dancers of the Garth Fagan troupe visit Syracuse University next week, there will be special opportunities to meet the dancers and rehearse with them. In addition, the Pulse performing arts program is offering special discount tickets to student organizations and dance programs.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 2:15-3:30 p.m., Garth Fagan Dance will hold a master class with the SU Drama Department. From 5-6 p.m., members of the troupe will participate in an open rehearsal with members of SU’s recognized student organizations in the areas of arts and entertainment. For location information or more details, contact Jennifer Bevilacqua Kirkegaard at 443-2718.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m., Fagan dancers will present the latest installment in the Pulse season, a performance in the Goldstein Auditorium. Tickets for this Black History Month celebration event are on sale at a discounted rate of $4 for members of recognized student organizations (six-ticket minimum) and $6 for local dance studios (10-ticket minimum). Regular tickets, on sale now at the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center Box Office, are $5 for students with SU I.D.; $15 for SU faculty, staff, alumni and Pulse partners; and $20 for the general public. For box office information, call (315) 443-4517. Free parking will be available in the Lehman and Harrison lots.

Rochester-based Garth Fagan Dance features the techniques and improvisation of Afro-Caribbean, ballet, modern and postmodern dance. In its 37-year history, Garth Fagan Dance has been featured on the “Tonight Show” and PBS’ “Great Performances,” and company founder and artistic director Fagan earned a Tony Award for his work on “The Lion King.” The company has received the New York State Governor’s Arts Award, and five of its members have received New York Performance Awards.
