Ellen DiVerniero kicks off JPMorgan Chase & Co. 2009 Spring Speaker Series at Syracuse University Feb. 4January 30, 2009Kelly Homan Rodoskikahoman@syr.edu

JPMorgan Chase & Co. opens its 2009 Spring Speaker Series at Syracuse University with Ellen DiVerniero, JPMorgan Chase managing director and global head of talent sourcing and development, on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Lundgren Room in the Life Sciences Complex. DiVerniero will speak on “Critical Career Decisions: Transforming Your Education Into the Right Occupation.” The event is free and open to the public; parking is available in SU pay lots.

In addition to her firm-wide responsibilities, DiVerniero is the head of training, entry programs and staffing for the bank’s corporate functions. In this role, she oversees talent management, performance management, mobility and retention strategies, and skills-based training for technology, operations, real estate, audit, risk, finance, strategy, legal and compliance, and human resources, as well as the entry-level programs associated with those businesses. DiVerniero has been with the firm for 17 years and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Albertus Magnus College.

While on campus, DiVerniero will also meet with faculty and students in The College of Arts and Sciences and with SU career directors.

“The speaker series brings to campus leaders in such areas as IT, governance, infrastructure management, human resources, law and finance,” says School of Information Studies professor David Dischiave, who led the design of the JPMorgan Chase speaker series at SU. “These visits provide our students with a wonderful opportunity to interact with practitioners and to network with future employers. It also allows faculty members to gather input from professionals so they can incorporate changes into the curriculum to better meet the current and future needs of industry.”

The next speaker in the series will be Carter Franke, managing director and branding executive at JPMorgan Chase, on Feb. 11.
