Holding true to his commitment to environmental and social justice, retired Syracuse University professor Oliver Clubb is making his newest book, “Global Warming Solutions: A Concerned Citizen’s Guide to Climate Protection,” available at no cost to those interested in reading it. It is also paperless.

To celebrate the book’s release, Clubb is also hosting a book release reception at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry on Thursday, Feb. 5, from 1-2 p.m. The event will include readings from the author and remarks from David Sonnenfeld, chair of SUNY-ESF’s Department of Environmental Studies, which is sponsoring the event. The event will be held in Room 110 of Moon Library; refreshments will be served.

Available on the Internet for viewing and downloading, by section or chapter, at http://gwsolutionsbook.com, Clubb’s book reflects the theory that almost all great changes in American history have arisen from citizen movements. In the United States and many other countries, bold “greening” initiatives in almost every sphere of human activity are taking place-with the potential for becoming an “epidemic” of change. The book tells stories about the many ways in which citizens in both high places and low can make a difference.

“My book doesn’t see citizens as passive bystanders while the fate of our children and grandchildren is determined by what our federal government does or doesn’t do to address the climate crisis,” says Clubb. “Rather, it sees all of us as potential agents of the great transformational changes that must take place to usher in a new era of global sustainability.”

Clubb currently serves, with Richard Smardon, professor at SUNY-ESF, as co-chair of the Syracuse-based Global Warming Action Network. His previous writings include “KAL Flight 007: The Hidden Story” (Permanent Press, 1985) and “The United States and the Sino-Soviet Bloc in Southeast Asia” (Brookings Institution, 1962).
