Maxwell to host economic forum Jan. 21 on financial crisis and Obama Administration’s proposed recovery strategiesJanuary 07, 2009Jill Leonhardtjlleonha@maxwell.syr.edu

The Maxwell School will host an economic forum on Jan. 21, featuring six faculty members from Maxwell and the Whitman School of Management, who will explain and discuss the root causes of the current financial crisis and the recovery strategies proposed by the Obama Administration. Their presentations will be followed by an opportunity for questions and conversation with the audience.

The forum will be held from 4-6 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium.

The professors will look at how housing and lending policies, financial instruments and global debt have led the nation into recession. They will also talk about the impact of the recession, the market reforms that are under consideration, and what they see for the nation’s economy in the short term.

David Richardson, professor of economics and international relations, will serve as moderator. Presenters will include economics professors Stuart Rosenthal and Derek Laing; Stuart Brown, international relations professor; and finance professors Yildiray Yildirim and Ravi Shukla.
