SU to conduct Family Care Assessment Oct. 1-15October 02, 2008SU News ServicesSUnews@syr.edu

Syracuse University will conduct a family care assessment October 1 – 15, 2008. The Family Care Advisory Committee, an extension of the WorkLife and Organizational Development team in the Office of Human Resources, is working with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) to design and implement the confidential web assessment tools. The assessment will provide valuable data on the University community’s needs relating to child, elder, spouse, partner and other types of dependent care. Your participation in this survey can help shape the future of family care services and support at SU.

“This is a great opportunity for faculty and staff to lend their voices to an important discussion that impacts family life now and in the future,” says Mickey Lord, director, WorkLife and Organizational Development. “It is so important that we hear from every voice, regardless of current child or elder care needs, to fully inform assessment results. Managers will have a unique view on how family care intersects the workplace. Colleagues can comment on how specific family care resources could improve their work environment as well as their personal situations.”

The data collected through this confidential process will be reviewed by the Family Care Advisory Committee and form the basis for a report to University Administration with recommendations for enhancing family care services and support.

The survey can be accessed at the following link: href=”http://oira.syr.edu/FamilyCare”>http://oira.syr.edu/FamilyCare using the individual code number e-mailed to the syr.edu account of all faculty, staff and graduate assistants. The unique code number will allow participants to complete the survey in more than one sitting. The number will not be used to match responses with an individual as the purpose is to gain an overall understanding of family care needs rather than individual responses. Members of the SEIU bargaining unit will receive a paper copy of the survey in place of e-mail. If you have questions about the survey process or you would prefer to complete the survey in paper format, contact Noreen Gaubatz at OIRA at 443-8700.

If you have specific questions about family care services currently available to faculty and staff, visit the family care web site at href=”http://humanresources.syr.edu/worklife/family_care.html”>http://humanresources.syr.edu/worklife/family_care.html or contact the WorkLife and Organizational Development team at 443-2488.
