Events celebrating community partnership and dialogue highlight run of Syracuse Stage’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’September 15, 2008Patrick Finlonstagepr@syr.edu

Syracuse Stage, in association with several of its community partners, has planned several exciting events during the run of August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” showing through Oct. 4. Tickets and information on the show are available at http://www.SyracuseStage.org.

All special events listed below take place before or after performances and are free and open to the public.

Saturday, Sept. 20, following 3 p.m. performanceQ&A with actress Ebony Jo-AnnCommunity Folk Art Center, 805 E. Genesee St.

Sunday, Sept. 21, following 7 p.m. performanceStageTalk: The N Word, Then and Now Archbold Theatre, Syracuse Stage

  • George Kilpatrick, TV and radio producer and host on WCNY, WSYR and Power 106.9, community advocate
  • Adam Banks, assistant professor of writing and rhetoric in the Writing Program in The College of Arts and Sciences at SU
  • Beth Broadway, program director of community-wide dialogue, InterFaith Works of Central New York

Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1 p.m.Nottingham Discussion Series: Women, Race and PowerSutton Pavilion, Syracuse Stage

  • Vivian May, associate professor of women’s and gender studies in The College of Arts and Sciences at SU
  • Val Gray Ward, actress, producer, cultural activist and internationally known theater personality
