Williams, Roberts, Carlson, Borowitz to take part in Mirror Awards luncheon June 23

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will hold the second annual Mirror Awards luncheon honoring excellence in media industry reporting on Monday, June 23 from 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

The school will honor late political journalist Tim Russert with the Fred Dressler Lifetime Achievement Award. NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor Brian Williams will speak on Russert’s behalf.

In addition, CNN Anchor John Roberts will present the i-3 Award for Impact, Innovation and Influence to CNN and YouTube for the CNN/YouTube debates. David Bohrman, senior vice president and Washington bureau chief for CNN, and Steve Grove, director of News & Politics for YouTube, will accept the award.

Mirror Awards will be given in five categories: Best Investigative Piece, Best Profile, Best Commentary, Best Single Article and Overall Excellence. Margaret Carlson, political columnist for Bloomberg News and Washington editor for The Week magazine, will present the awards.

Comedian and satirist Andy Borowitz will serve as master of ceremonies. Newhouse Dean David M. Rubin will also offer remarks.

The Mirror Awards, established by the Newhouse School in 2006, honor the reporters, editors and teams of writers who hold a mirror to their own industry for the public¿s benefit. Honorees are recognized for news judgment and command of craft in reporting, analysis and commentary on developments in the media industry and its role in our economy, culture and democracy. This year¿s competition drew more than 100 entries.
