Syracuse Symphony offers $5 rush tickets to SU students for Grammy Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn May 5April 30, 2008Jaime Winne Alvarezjlwinne@syr.edu

The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO), a community partner with Syracuse University’s Pulse performing arts series, is offering $5 rush tickets to SU students for “An Evening with Hilary Hahn” on Monday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mulroy Civic Center at Oncenter. The performance will be conducted by SSO music director Daniel Hege.

Hahn, a Grammy Award-winning violinist, brings her dynamic spirit and intense performance to Central New York with her interpretation of Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a true virtuosic showcase piece. The concert program will feature the orchestra in Prokofiev’s highly popular Lieutenant Kije Suite and Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody. The concert is presented in association with SUNY Upstate Medical University.

At the age of 28, Hahn is one of the most compelling artists on the international concert circuit. Renowned for her intellectual and emotional maturity, she was named “America’s Best Young Classical Musician” by Time Magazine in 2001 and appears on a regular basis with the world’s great orchestras in Asia, Europe and North America. In addition, she is a Central New York favorite, having appeared numerous times at the Skaneateles Festival since 1992. Hahn has recorded many bestselling and award-winning albums, including her most recent release (“Schoenberg: Violin Concertos,” Hilary Hahn and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra), currently ranked number one on the Billboard Top Classical Albums chart.

Tickets for the general public start at $30; $5 student rush tickets (subject to availability) will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. the night of the performance at the Civic Center Box Office.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit http://www.syracusesymphony.org or call the SSO Customer Service Center at (315) 424-8200 or (800) 724-3810.
