Carrier’s Bill Chadwick to speak on ‘Picking the Right Particle Air Filter’ in April 24 seminarApril 09, 2008Martin Wallsmwalls@syracusecoe.org

Bill Chadwick — a member of Carrier Corp.’s newly formed Indoor Air Quality Key Competency Group — will speak on “Particle Air Filtration, Picking the Type that Meets Your Needs” on Thursday, April 24, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse.

This talk continues the Central New York Sustainable Speaker Series, produced jointly by the Syracuse Center of Excellence Office for Industry Collaboration and the U.S. Green Building Council New York Upstate Chapter.

“The primary objective of my talk is to understand various ratings for particle filters, the wide range of performance within the marketplace, and how to match them up with your filtration needs,” says Chadwick. “HVAC professionals, building managers and members of the public will learn that while a MERV Number is nice to know, it isn’t enough to make an enlightened purchase; that there are many filter change methodologies out there, not all well-suited to the cost-conscientious buyer; and that graduating up the purchasing ladder — from a first-cost buyer, to life-cycle buyer, to human performance buyer — brings viable rewards with each step.”

Chadwick has a long career in HVAC systems design, specializing in energy conservation, indoor air quality and integrated building systems and control. He is a registered professional engineer in four states, a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Energy Manager. The Carrier Indoor Air Quality Key Competency Group has responsibility for improving airside product features and functions for improved indoor air quality within the occupancies Carrier serves.

The cost of the talk is $15 for USGBC New York Upstate Chapter members and $20 for non-members (cost includes dinner). Registration and payment can be made online at http://www.greenupstateny.org. For more information, contact Sandy Downey, Syracuse CoE Office for Industry Collaboration, at (351) 443-8211 or sdowney@syracusecoe.org, or Tracie Hall, USGBC New York Upstate Chapter, at (315) 729-9067 or tracie@greenupstateny.org.

The Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (http://syracusecoe.org) is a federation of more than 200 businesses and institutions that collaborate on sustainable innovations to improve built and urban environments. Members of the Syracuse CoE federation work on research, development and educational projects relating to clean and renewable energy, indoor environmental quality and water resources.
