Whitman Students place third in annual transportation competition

Five undergraduate students in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University placed third in “Operation Stimulus,” as part of the 27th Annual Transportation Forum, hosted Jan. 24-26 by the Colorado Transportation Community and the Denver Transportation Club. The Operation Stimulus conference provides a forum for speakers from leading industries, educators and government officials to make presentations and interact with high school and college students and people representing all elements of the transportation industry.

This year’s event, titled “Sustainable Logistics in the 21st Century,” focused on how leading companies use sustainable transportation to increase profits, as well as “green” logistics, reverse distribution and sustainability, and environmental considerations and profitability.

A total of 11 colleges and universities competed in the competition. The Whitman students who made up the third-place team are seniors Michelle Caruso, Greg Dunston, Jason Ireton, Sarah Reed and Shayna Webb.

“The Whitman team worked very hard in a stressful environment, where all the rival schools take the competition seriously,” says Gary La Point, assistant professor of supply chain management. “I am very proud of our team and their accomplishment.”
