Direct deposit available for non-payroll payments to faculty, staffDecember 06, 2007SU News ServicesSUnews@syr.edu

The Office of the Comptroller has announced that direct deposit is now available to faculty and staff for non-payroll payments issued by the Disbursements Processing department. Items such as travel and other employee expense reimbursements were previously only payable via check. This is in addition to and distinct from the direct deposit that is offered for payroll payments by the Payroll Office.

There is no change to the paperwork required to substantiate expenses. After signing up for this direct deposit option and submitting documentation for expenses incurred, employees will receive an email notification when the deposit has been made to their bank or financial institution account.

In addition to saving time and money for all, direct deposit also helps the environment. With direct deposit, faculty and staff members can become active participants in the University’s commitment to sustainability.

To participate in this program, the Disbursements Processing Employee Direct Deposit Request must be completed. It is available on the BFAS forms website, listed as “Direct Deposit-Employee Expense.” The BFAS forms website can be found at http://bfasweb.syr.edu/forms/ and is also accessible from MySlice under “Employee Resources, Forms and Procedures.”

This new direct deposit option for non-payroll payments is currently only available to University faculty and staff. Undergraduate and graduate student employees are excluded. Participation for all students is expected to become available after the University’s PeopleSoft Human Resource Student Administration system upgrade, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2008. Direct deposit of payroll payments for all undergraduate and graduate student employees remains available and is encouraged for any student-employees who have not yet taken advantage of this service.
