Innovation executive to speak at Whitman Dec. 1November 16, 2006Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will host a lecture by Lawrence A. Sala, president and CEO of Anaren Inc., Friday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. The lecture, titled “Innovation — The Anaren Way,” will take place in Room 303 of the Whitman School building, and it is free and open to the public.

“Sala has done a wonderful job as CEO of Anaren,” says David Wilemon, the Snyder Professor of Innovation Management in the Whitman School. “He has revitalized Anaren via several major initiatives, including expanding a major facility in China as well as launching several new products. He will undoubtedly have much inspirational information to share during his visit.”

Sala’84, G’86 (Engineering), G’93 (M.B.A.), began his tenure at Anaren in 1984 as an engineer before serving as vice president of marketing and then being promoted to president in 1995. He has been CEO since 1997 and has been chair of the board of directors since 2001. Sala also serves on the boards of Carlisle Corp., Syracuse Research Corp. and the Boy& Girls Club of Syracuse.

Located in Syracuse, Anaren designs, manufactures and sells complex microwave signal distribution networks and components for the wireless communications, satellite communications and defense electronics markets. Anaren is also one of Nasdaq’s “Five Star” companies — companies that have market capitalization and sales greater than $100 million, three-year annualized revenue growth of 5 percent or greater, and positive free cash flow for the past 12 months.
