Polling, parking information provided to voters in the University community, City of Syracuse’s 16th Ward, District 1November 01, 2006Sara Millersemortim@syr.edu

The Office of Government and Community Relations at Syracuse University provides the following voting information for registered voters within the University community and the City of Syracuse’s 16th Ward, District 1:

Voting information for the 2006 general election for residents in the City of Syracuse’s 16th Ward, District 1:

Those who registered to vote by Oct. 13 and reside in the 16th Ward, District 1, should have received postcards from the Onondaga County Board of Elections stating that their polling location for the general election is SU’s Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center (upper lobby of Goldstein Auditorium). Polls will be open Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 6 a.m.-9 p.m.

Parking for voters will be available free of charge in the following lots on a space-available basis: the Waverly and Marion visitor lots and Booth Garage. The Office of Parking and Transit Services will place signs at each of these locations stating “Voter Parking Here.” Voters should tell the parking attendant on duty that they are on campus to vote and will be granted a parking space if there is room. In the event that the lot is full, the parking attendant will direct the voter to a lot with available space.

Disabled parking will be honored in the marked disabled spaces in the Quad 5 lot, Bird Library lot and the R1 lot by displaying New York State disabled plates or hanging tags. Disabled access will be available at the Schine Student Center entrance that faces the Newhouse complex.

Voting information for the 2006 general election for SU students and residents of the area:

Through Election Day, SU students, faculty and staff and local residents can look up their polling location using the poster in the kiosks at the Schine Student Center and the Goldstein Student Center on South Campus. Users can locate their residence on the map and look at the corresponding list of polling locations to verify where to vote.

Additionally, the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) will be sponsoring shuttles from SU’s Flint Hall (on Mount Olympus Drive) to Toomey Abbott Towers, as well as from the Goldstein Student Center to St. Andrews Church from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Election Day. NYPIRG will post signs near the doors of Flint Hall and the Goldstein Student Center to let voters know about the shuttle service and where to wait for the shuttle. Voters with questions can call NYPIRG at (315) 476-8381. NYPIRG is New York’s largest nonpartisan, student-directed consumer, environmental and government reform organization.

In the event voters are unsure of where to go on Election Day, they can contact the Onondaga County Board of Elections at 435-8683; Karen Ventrone in SU’s Office of Government and Community Relations at 443-3919 or kmventro@syr.edu; or visit http://ntsdata.dnsalias.com/onondagaboe/.
