Hillel and University Union (UU) at Syracuse University will present comedian and actor Michael Ian Black on Monday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. Black will speak on “The Awesome Life with Michael Ian Black,” chronicling life as a C-list celebrity and giving audiences a peek inside the Hollywood food chain. Paid parking is available in SU pay lots.
Tickets — $3 for SU students and $5 for SU faculty, staff and the general public — went on sale Oct. 16 for students and will go on sale Oct. 19 for all others. They are available at the Schine Box Office, (315) 443-4517.
Black co-founded and starred in the groundbreaking sketch comedy “The State” on MTV and CBS. He was a series regular on NBC’s hit drama “Ed,” playing Stuckeybowl’s quirky manager, Phil, and also starred in the film “Wet Hot American Summer,” opposite Paul Rudd and Janeane Garofalo. He later co-created the Comedy Central series “Viva Variety” and provided extensive comedic commentary for the popular “I Love the `70s/’80s/’90s” series on VH-1. He also comments on politics and current events for CNN.
Currently, Black can be seen on Comedy Central’s “Stella,” which features the comedic trio of Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain as modern-day Marx Brothers who spread their comedy everywhere they go, satirizing everyday experiences. “Stella” began as a weekly comedy show, which has played to sold-out audiences in New York and around the country since its inception in January 1997. Black has been writing, producing and performing comedy with the group and solo for more than a decade.
