Diversity Business Summit steps up to the table: the dinner tableOctober 05, 2006SU News ServicesSUnews@syr.edu

On Oct. 10, Syracuse University’s fifth annual Diversity Business Summit will take networking to the next level with the addition of “Diversity at the Dinner Table.” Students will have the unique opportunity to sit down to dinner with the employer of their choice and discuss issues and trends in today’s highly competitive global marketplace. This is the first time the Diversity Business Summit has offered this component, and more than 30 employers will participate in this new twist on the traditional networking event, which is supported by JPMorgan Chase, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Morgan Stanley, SU’s Career Services Network and Office of Multicultural Affairs, a principal unit of the Division of Student Affairs.

“It is a rare chance to take networking beyond the normal setting usually available to today’s student,” says Gregory J. Victory, associate director of campus/employer engagement. “Having the opportunity to connect with a potential employer for an extended period of time gives students a chance to learn more about a company or organization and really ensure a great first impression.”

The event will also feature keynote speaker Martha Gallo, executive vice president and general auditor of Platinum Sponsor JP Morgan Chase’s Operating Risk Management group. Gallo has dedicated her career to the diversification of JP Morgan Chase and works to increase activism in the corporate community.

“We see a unique opportunity to partner with Syracuse University to identify talented and diverse individuals to join our team and contribute to the firm’s overall success,” says Gallo. “As sponsorship of the 2006 Diversity Business Summit is just the beginning of our partnership, we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the University.”

Developed in 2001, the Diversity Business Summit was created as an interactive networking event focused on assisting students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds to succeed in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. In addition to dinner, students will have the opportunity to compete in Morgan Stanley’s Diversity Case Study Competition. Teams of four will compete in a problem-solving exercise relevant to today’s diverse workforce. The winning team members will receive iPods. The evening will conclude with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Dessert Networking Reception, allowing students the chance to interact with other employers involved with the Diversity Business Summit.

Students may register for the Diversity Business Summit or sign up a team for the Case Study Competition by visiting http://students.syr.edu/careerservices/index.htm.

For more information about the Diversity Business Summit, contact Greg Victory at the Center for Career Services in Room 235 of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center or by e-mail at gjvictor@syr.edu.
