Syracuse University Abroad to launch Architecture Program in LondonAugust 30, 2006Daeya Malboeufdmking04@syr.edu

Syracuse University Abroad is introducing a studio-based architecture program at the Syracuse University London Program in Bloomsbury. The new program, debuting in spring 2007, will be modeled after the prestigious and long-established architecture program located at the Syracuse University Florence center and is designed for SU students on track for either a bachelor’s or master’s first professional degree in architecture. Non-SU students will be considered in subsequent semesters.

The University was encouraged to create the London architecture program in response to the continued growth seen in its Florence program. The new London Program offering will take advantage of the professional, historical and cultural resources that abound in London specifically and Europe in general. It will also provide opportunities for collaboration with British schools of architecture as well as with the SU Florence center. Lecturers, visiting critics and exhibitions will be exchanged, and joint symposia will be organized.

“The new London architecture program will serve as a portal to northern Europe as the Florence architecture program has served as a gateway to the Mediterranean,” says Randall Korman, associate dean and coordinator of the School of Architecture’s study abroad programs. “With these two programs operating in tandem, our students will have access to an unprecedented range of experiences.”

For more information on the London architecture program, contact Susan Loevenguth, associate director of curriculum and academic services at SU Abroad, at 443-9418 or smloeven@syr.edu.

Syracuse University Abroad is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report for study abroad programs. For more than 45 years, SU Abroad has offered credit-bearing study abroad opportunities for students enrolled at Syracuse University and other colleges and universities across the United States and Canada. Today, SU Abroad maintains academic centers in Beijing, Florence, Hong Kong, London, Madrid and Strasbourg, which all host study abroad programs throughout the academic year and in the summer. Each center has close ties to local universities, allowing students to design integrated programs of study appropriate to their academic and language abilities.
