The Starting Line, Blackalicious, Motion City Soundtrack to headline Juice Jam 2006August 28, 2006Jaime Winne Alvarezjlwinne@syr.edu

This Sunday, Sept. 3, from noon-6 p.m., Syracuse University will host the third annual Juice Jam Festival. The music festival and fair is open to SU and SUNY ESF students, faculty and staff only. The festival will feature performances by national acts The Starting Line, Blackalicious and Motion City Soundtrack. It will take place rain or shine in the Standart parking lot, behind Lawrinson and Sadler halls.

Tickets are available at the Schine Student Center Box Office, (315) 443-4517. Tickets will be required for admission and are $10 for SU and SUNY ESF students with valid I.D., and $15 for faculty and staff.

Representatives of more than 100 recognized student organizations will also be present at Juice Jam to greet students and provide information. Intended to reinvigorate the University’s tradition of outdoor musical events for students, Juice Jam is coordinated by University Union and co-sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.

The Starting Line’s punk-pop sound originated in Churchville, Pa., in 1999. Since its formation, the group has released two albums-“Say It Like You Mean It” and “Based On A True Story”-and appeared frequently on the Warped Tour.

West Coast alternative rap act Blackalicious formed in 1992 and continues to dazzle audiences with its experimental alternative sound. It has released three albums, including “The Craft” in 2005.

Indie rock group Motion City Soundtrack already has a major following. With two albums – “I Am the Movie” in 2003 and “Commit This to Memory” in 2005 – the band continues to progress in the expanding world of alternative music.
