SU Recreation Services golf tournament raises more than $2,500 for William A. Leaf Scholarship Fund at Henninger July 28, 2006Sara Millersemortim@syr.edu

The first annual Syracuse University Department of Recreation Services Golf Tournament raised $2513.17 for the William A. Leaf Scholarship Fund at Henninger High School. The William A. Leaf Scholarship Fund was established in the name of Bill Leaf, a 2002 SU graduate, former student employee of the Department of Recreation Services, and local radio and television news reporter who was killed in a car accident this past January.

A total of 40 golfers participated in the event. Joseph Lore, associate director of club sports, facilities and fitness centers in the Department of Recreation Services, will present a check in the amount of the tournament proceeds to Maria Leaf, Bill’s sister and a news anchor for ClearChannel Radio, in early August.

Major sponsors of the tournament held at Drumlins East on Monday, July 10, were WAER-FM 88.3, Pro Star Sports and Star Trac Fitness. Additionally, several organizations sponsored individual holes, and a silent auction was held to raise additional funds.

The William A. Leaf Scholarship Fund at Henninger High School has raised more than $3,500 since being instituted earlier this year. Those wishing to donate to the fund can send a check to Henninger High School, 600 Robinson Street, Syracuse NY 13206. Please make the check payable to the Syracuse City School District.
