Maria Pallone of Recreation Services has been named this year’s Student Employee of the Year. She was recognized at an April 5 reception. National Student Employment Week is April 10-14.

Runners-up included Maria Ciliberto, a student employee in the University College Leadership Institute; Marudhu Ramachandran, a student employee in the Office of Disability Services; and Melanie Chapman, a student employee at the Central New York chapter of Camp Fire USA. On-campus Student Employer of the Year recognition was given to the Department of Public Safety; the Westcott Community Center was named off-campus Student Employer of the year.

National Student Employment Week was established to recognize the value of student employees and student employment professionals. SU has 4,306 student employees, 53 of whom were nominated for this year’s Student Employee of the Year award. Last year’s SU Student Employee of the Year, Nicholas Rigos, went on to win the New York State Student Employee of the Year award for his work with the Office of Disability Services.

In honor of National Student Employment Week, Student Employment Services (SES) at 210 Steele Hall, will give away free popcorn and give visitors the opportunity to register for prizes April 10-14 between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Drawings will be held Friday, April 14, at 3 p.m.

Tuesday, April 11, is the annual “Cookie Day” in the atrium of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. SES will distribute free cookies and other giveaways.
