Kevin Cooper ’01, director of media relations for the National Football League’s Houston Texans, will visit the Syracuse University campus this week, speaking to sport management and public relations classes Thursday, Feb. 16, and meeting with sport management and Newhouse students, as well as student-athletes, Friday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. in Room A2 of Newhouse I.

His visit is sponsored by the College of Human Services and Health Professions’ (HSHP) Sport Management Program and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Cooper, who also serves as the media contact for Lone Star Sports and Entertainment, began his NFL career with summer internships in the public relations departments of the Tennessee Titans (1999) and St. Louis Rams (2000). He served as a public relations intern with the New York Giants during the 2001 season and with the Texans in 2002. He was hired as a media relations assistant for the team in 2003 and promoted to director last season.

In 2003, Cooper was part of a staff that won the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Cooper also has worked three Super Bowls and was recently selected by the NFL to work the 2006 AFC Championship Game.

Cooper received a degree in broadcast journalism from the Newhouse School in 2001. As a student, he was a founding member of the African American Male Congress National Honor Society. He also worked at WAER.
