Principals from SYSTEMarchitects to lecture at SU School of Architecture Feb. 15January 31, 2006Jaime Winne Alvarez jlwinne@syr.edu

Jeremy Edmiston and Douglas Gauthier, principals of the New York City-based design firm SYSTEMarchitects will lecture at the Syracuse University School of Architecture Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the school’s new home, The Warehouse, 350 W. Fayette St. Their lecture, “SYSTEMs in Play,” is free and open to the public. For information on public parking at The Warehouse, call (315) 443-8238.

The SYSTEMarchitects firm was founded in 1997. Both Edmiston and Gauthier, who are visiting critics in the School of Architecture, currently teach at City College. They received their master’s of architecture degrees from Columbia University and have been Fulbright Scholars. Gauthier recently received a Graham Foundation research grant.

Their practice has entered many design competitions, including the recent competition for a new TKTS pavilion in New York City and another for refugee housing in Kosovo, for which the firm designed an easily transportable, simple-to-construct kit of parts to create housing from prefabricated components. Other projects include the System Carrier PROTOtype Sofa, published in a recent issue of Wallpaper magazine. They are currently working on the fulcrumSTAIR, an exterior stair for a loft building in the East Village, which has multiple uses as a fire stair, terrace and greenhouse roof.

For more information, contact Mary Kate O’Brien, communicationsmanager for the School of Architecture, at (315) 443-2388 or mcobrien@syr.edu.
