Premier thinker in entrepreneurship to lecture at Whitman School, Sept. 30September 23, 2005Amy Schmitzaemehrin@syr.edu

Jeffery Covin, the Samuel and Pauline Glaubinger Professor of Entrepreneurship and Professor of Strategic Management at Indiana University, will speak at Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management on Friday, Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. The lecture, titled “Strategic Processes, Corporate Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Growth in Established Firms,” will be held at 721 University Ave., Room 303. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and paid parking is available at the University Avenue garage. An invitation-only seminar will also be held on Sept. 30, for business leaders from Central New York.

At Indiana University, Covin teaches in the fields of strategic management, technology management and entrepreneurship. His research interests include the strategic use of corporate entrepreneurship, decision-making styles that promote firm performance in various industry contexts and competitive strategy among high-technology firms. Covin’s research has been published in the top journals in the fields of strategic management, technology management and entrepreneurship, and he is the recipient of several teaching and research awards.

Covin has a Ph.D. in organizational studies and strategic planning from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds an MBA in management from Indiana University and a BS in management from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining the Indiana University faculty, he was the Hal and John Smith Chair of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management in the DuPree College of Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
