SU Library Associates Holds Banned Books Week FundraiserSeptember 14, 2005Sara Millersemortim@syr.edu

To celebrate National Banned Books Week, the Syracuse University Library Associates Board of Trustees will host a screening of the movie version of Ray Bradbury’s classic “Fahrenheit 451”-about a book-burning society-on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the newly renovated Palace Theater, 2384 James St., Syracuse.

Raffle tickets, at $50 each, buy admission for two to the film and a chance to win a “Literary Getaway to New York City,” which includes airfare, overnight accommodations for two in New York City, a literary tour of Greenwich Village and a basket of books and CDs. No more than 300 raffle tickets will be sold.

The event will begin with a 6 p.m. reception featuring gourmet popcorn. The film will begin at 7 p.m., and the raffle will take place immediately afterward (the winner need not be present). Following the drawing, film mavens Norm Keim and Owen Shapiro will lead a discussion on censorship and freedom of thought. To purchase a ticket, call Terry Belzak at the SU Library at 315-443-9763.

General admission for those who do not wish to participate in the raffle is $10 each-$5 for students. General admission tickets will be available at the door.

Syracuse University Library Associates is a friends organization that supports the goals of Syracuse University Library. All proceeds will benefit the library.
