Put some power in your networking with George C. Fraser’s POWERnetworking Sept. 15 at SUSeptember 02, 2005Carol K. Masiclatclkim@syr.edu

Who has Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey and LeBron James in his Rolodex? George C. Fraser, one of the world’s foremost authorities on networking and building effective relationships. He will share the secrets to his networking abilities during a workshop, “POWERnetworking with George C. Fraser,” Sept. 15 at 7 p.m., in Room 411 of the new building of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

Syracuse University’s Division of Student Affairs, the Division of Student Support and Retention, and the African American Male Congress are hosting the event. This workshop is free and open to the public.

“We are confident that the networking expertise of George C. Fraser will enrich the educational experience of all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members who participate, particularly those attending Coming Back Together 8,” says Horace Smith, associate vice president for student support and retention. Coming Back Together is SU’s reunion weekend celebrating its African American and Latino Alumni.

An author of several best selling books, Fraser inspires African American professionals to achieve success with a profound sense of personal satisfaction. A popular motivational speaker, Fraser’s talks on success principles, effective networking, wealth creation, business ethics and valuing diversity inspire corporate professionals and college students alike.

Fraser is chair and CEO of FraserNet, Inc., and the author of “Success Runs In Our Race: The Complete Guide to Effective Networking in the African American Community” (Amistad, 2004), a critically acclaimed bestseller. He also wrote

“Race For Success: The Ten Best Business Opportunities for Blacks in America” (William Morrow & Co., 1998), which was selected as one of 10 best business books of the year by Booklist. Fraser is also the publisher of the award-winning directory “SuccessGuide Worldwide: The Networking Guide to Black Resources.” He is the founder of the annual POWERNetworking Conference, the largest gathering of African-American professionals, business owners and community leaders in the country.

Larry Thomas, founder of the African American Male Congress and associate director of the Office of Graduate Preparation Programs, is especially excited about the workshop. “I met George Fraser at the 1995 National Black Student Leadership Development Conference, and it was a life-altering experience for me,” says Thomas. “He helped me to appreciate the value of contributing to and benefiting from the cultivation of interdependent relationships. I trust that he will pass his wisdom on to our undergraduates participating in CBT, so that they can make meaningful connections with alumni-the perfect teachers and our greatest advocates.”

POWERnetworking with George C. Fraser is co-sponsored by the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program, the Whitman School, the ARISE Academy, the Black Law Students Association, BLISTS, the Center for Career Services and the Gateway Learning Community.
