SU announces Gold ’70 as president of Alumni AssociationJune 21, 2005Matthew R. Snydermrsnyder@syr.edu

Neil Gold ’70, co-owner of Gold Pure Food Products Co., has been named president of the Syracuse University Alumni Association. His two-year term will begin July 1. Gold currently serves on the Clubs Committee, Finance Committee, Visibility and Outreach Committee, Awards Committee and Orange Grove Subcommittee.

In his new role, Gold will manage the Alumni Association’s activities and will represent more than 225,000 alumni as an ex officio member of SU’s Board of Trustees. He graduated from SU with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from The College of Arts and Sciences.

“The University has benefited greatly from Neil’s unwavering support, first as a leader of our vibrant Long Island alumni club and now as a nationwide and global advocate for SU,” says Donald C. Doerr ’85, LAW’88, assistant vice president for alumni relations. “The Alumni Association president plays a key role in making the most of our alumni community’s passion for SU. Neil is the right person for this very important job at an exciting time in the history of the University.”

Gold is the third generation of his family at the helm of a business founded in Brooklyn in 1932. Gold Pure Food Products is known for premium horseradish, mustard and other condiments, including the Nathan’s product line. Gold was honored in 1999 as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Small Business Person of the Year for the Long Island and New York districts. He has also served as a member of the Association for Dressings and Sauces, and as a director of the Long Island Coalition for Fair Broadcasting.

Prior to his time at Gold Pure Food Products, Gold worked in the actuarial field, developing an interest in computers that has become a lifelong hobby. He is an avid supporter of SU sports, and can be found at virtually every football and basketball game, home or away.

An active participant in SU activities, Gold is past president of the SU Alumni Club of Long Island. He serves on SU’s Foodservice Advisory Committee, the SU Athletic Development Advisory Board, SU’s Metropolitan New York Regional Council and the Parents Office Board of Directors. Gold was honored as the Most Valuable Orange Pack Member in 1999 and is the winner of the Alumni Club of Long Island’s 2002 Alumnus of the Year Award. He is a member of the Society of Fellows.

“I am very passionate about Syracuse University, and so proud to be an alum,” says Gold. “It is a great honor to be able to represent SU alumni as we continue to add new chapters in the story of our University.”

Gold resides in Dix Hills, N.Y., with his wife, Helene Gold, and daughter Amanda Gold, a member of SU’s Class of 2008; his three other children live in Cornwall, N.Y., with their spouses and children. For more information on the alumni activities at SU, visit http://www.syr.edu/alumni.html
