The College of Human Services and Health Professions (HSHP) will hold the first annual Christy Food and Culture Event, April 2 and 3 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day, in the Nutrition Dining Room, Room 021 of Slocum Hall.
The two-day combination of lectures, cooking demonstrations and hands-on food workshops will be led by Corinne Trang, a world-renowned chef, author and culinary instructor who explores the relationship between culture and food.
The event is made possible by a gift from nutrition alumna Joan Christy ’78, G’81, who is also a member of the HSHP Board of Visitors. “The event brings in some new points of view and interest for the students,” she says. “My hope is to broaden how they think of food and how it relates to our culture and other cultures around the world.”
Norm Faiola, associate professor and department chair, is grateful for the opportunity Christy’s gift provides students. “Her generous support allows students to explore other cultures they might not know about, in terms of new cuisine, nutrition, and customs.”
