This year’s storytellers and the stories they will share include:

  • The Open Hand Puppet Theater Ensemble of Syracuse will present “UnBridle That Mule – Fifteen Miles of Fun on the Erie Canal,” from 10:15-11 a.m.
  • Patricia Burak, director of SU’s Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services and assistant professor of literature in The College of Arts and Sciences, will present “The Scarlet Flower,” a Russian folktale, from 11:15 a.m.-noon.
  • The Rev. Frederick “Fritz” Lampe, Lutheran chaplain, will tell “The Cinderella Tales and The Swan Maiden,” from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Arthur Flowers, professor of English and creative writing in The College of Arts and Sciences; and Francis McMillan Parks, director of Students Offering Service and African American Programs in Hendricks Chapel, will present “The Voices and Geniuses of the Harlem Renaissance and Beyond,” from 2-3:30 p.m.

The conference will conclude with the folk/acoustic music of Dana “Short Order” Cooke and His Band Joe from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the Hendricks Chapel’s Noble Room. Cooke, who has been nominated for several Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) for best songwriter and best album, can often be heard on TK99-FM’s Sunday morning program “Blue Moon Cafe” and on WAER’s Sunday afternoon folk and acoustic program “Common Threads.” More info can be found at www.DanaCooke.com.
