NASA selects SU for site visit Nov. 12-14November 06, 2003Debi Walkerdjwalker@syr.edu

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected Syracuse University as one of the 14 colleges and universities across the United States to visit for corporate recruitment on Nov. 12-14.

According to NASA personnel, SU has been selected on the basis of NASA’s critical competency needs in science, engineering, and business management. Debi Walker, assistant director of recruiting and employer relations in SU’s Center for Career Services, says “this is an exciting opportunity for students and faculty to show off their skills and research projects to NASA representatives. This will also be a good time to explore the career, educational, and research opportunities within NASA.”

Other events planned for NASA’s visit include a Nov. 12 opening reception and informational session at the SU Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center, after which faculty and student organizations will have an opportunity to network with NASA representatives.

On Nov. 13, career, research and education awareness sessions will include a panel discussion.Students will also have the opportunity to use a flight simulator and explore other interactive technology. There will be a NASA Awareness Luncheon at noon, with a NASA astronaut as the guest speaker.

The following day, NASA will host a Job Exploration Day, including one-on-one consultations with NASA representatives in the Center for Career Services. Job Exploration Day will highlight NASA opportunities for students interested in business management, information technology, finance, research psychology, physical, chemical, or biological sciences and engineering disciplines.

Interested students must register for the event, luncheon and one-on-one consultations at http://www.nasajobs.nasa.gov. Interested faculty members should sign up at http://neo.hq.nasa.gov/faculty/. For additional information, contact Sue Catanesye at 443-2009 or scatanes@syr.edu or Debi Walker at 443-9092 or djwalker@syr.edu.
