Syracuse University to hold Employee Appreciation Day events at football home opener Sept. 13September 09, 2003Cynthia J. Moritzcjmoritz@syr.edu

On Sept. 13, Syracuse University will celebrate the first Employee Appreciation Day at the Carrier Dome during SU’s opening home football game of the season.

SU employees may purchase half-price game tickets for themselves and their family members and guests upon presentation of SU ID at the Dome box office. Also, beginning two hours before the game, employees can go to the Family Fun Zone on Hendricks Field next to Lawrinson Residence Hall and present their employee IDs to receive a free gift, a free can of Pepsi Vanilla and a chance to register for random prize drawings that will occur during the game. In addition, the first 1,000 employees who register will receive a $5 food coupon to use at Dome concessions. All employees are invited to participate in the Fun Zone activities, including season ticket holders.

“Employee Appreciation Day is a fine way to thank our employees for their excellent efforts throughout the year,” says SU Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw. “It is our hope that this celebration will become another great SU tradition.”

An added feature of this year’s Employee Appreciation Day festivities is the opportunity to see the National Championship men’s basketball team in person as players are presented with their championship rings at halftime. “We are hopeful that many employees will turn out or this event,” says Neil Strodel, associate vice president and chief human resources officer. “It is SU’s way of saying thanks, and what better way to do it than at the Carrier Dome?”

TIAA-CREF and Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield-Central New York region are sponsoring Employee Appreciation Day, and representatives from the Chancellor’s Office, the Office of Human Resources, the SU Athletics Department, University Communications and University Food Services are collaborating on the event.

Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) is one of the largest financial service providers in the world. For more than 80 years it has worked to ensure the financial well being of the faculty and staff of America’s education and research communities.
