Political analyst Ann Coulter to speak at SU March 5February 28, 2003Mark Owczarskimaowczar@syr.edu

Event hosted by SU College Republicans

Political analyst and attorney Ann Coulter, author of the current best selling book “Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right,” will speak at Syracuse University March 5 at 8 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium of the Schine Student Center. The title of her lecture will be “Liberalism and Terrorism: Different Stages of the Same Disease.”

Coulter will be hosted by the University’s chapter of the College Republicans and the Federalist Society in the College of Law; the event is supported by the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. Tickets are available at the Schine Student Center Box Office. Cost is $2 for the general public and free to students, faculty and staff with a valid SU I.D.

Called “one of the 20 most fascinating women in politics” by George magazine, Coulter has been dubbed “the Abbie Hoffman of the Right” for her witty, no-holds-barred commentaries on the Washington scene.

In addition, she is the author of “High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton,” which spent eight weeks on The New York Times bestseller list in 1998. That book was widely praised by Judge Robert Bork, columnist George Will and many others and was cited in numerous editorials calling for President Clinton’s resignation.

Coulter is a frequent guest on political talk shows. She has appeared on ABC’s “This Week” and “Good Morning America,” NBC’s “Today Show,” “Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher,” CNN’s “Larry King Live,” CNBC’s “Rivera Live,” and “Equal Time,” among others. She also has been profiled in such diverse publications as the Washington Post, National Journal, New York Magazine, TV Guide, Harper’s Bazaar and Capital Style.

Coulter has worked as an attorney at the Center for Individual Rights, a conservative public-interest law firm; served as legal counsel to Sen. Spencer Abraham on the Senate Judiciary Committee; and served as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice. She has also practiced corporate law and clerked for the Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Coulter writes a weekly legal column in the influential conservative weekly Human Events in which she discusses judicial rulings, constitutional issues and legal matters affecting the Congress and the executive branch.

The Schine Student Center Box Office is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturdays from noon-9 p.m. and Sundays from noon-6 p.m. For ticket information, call the box office at 443-4517.
