Syracuse University Counseling Center to sponsor Depression Screening Day Oct. 9October 03, 2002Michele M. Jachimmmjachim@syr.edu

The Syracuse University Counseling Center–an integral unit of the Division of Student Affairs–along with the University Employee Assistance Program, Psychological Counseling Services and The Goldberg Clinic, is sponsoring a Depression Screening Day on Oct. 9.

“For students, the college years are tremendously exciting and fun, but at times, they can also be very demanding and stressful,” says Christopher Cederquist, assistant director of The Counseling Center. “By reaching out to the campus community to educate them about depression, we are hopeful we can help students and others understand the difference between ‘the blues’ and depression, and let them know that there are numerous resources available to assist them.”

The free clinic, which is open to all University students, faculty and staff, will be held Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Rooms 304 A, B and C of the Schine Student Center.

The Syracuse University Counseling Center aims to provide students with comprehensive clinical and mental health services that facilitate problem resolution, help improve relationships, enhance personal growth, and support successful academic achievement. The professional staff includes 11 trained therapists who are focused on enhancing the psychological well being of individual students and the broader campus community.

For more information on the clinic, or to learn more about the programs and services available through The Counseling Center, call 443-4715.
