Syracuse University pre-game football events relocated to respect Rosh Hashanah celebration at Hendricks ChapelAugust 22, 2002Judy Holmesjlholmes@syr.edu

Pre-game events for the Sept. 7 Syracuse University vs. the University of North Carolina football game in the Carrier Dome will be held at the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center and on the corner of College Place and University Place out of respect for celebrations of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, that will be occurring at Hendricks Chapel during the same time period.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. “Orange Friendzy,” a pre-game gathering sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations and Orange Pack, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center, 401 University Place. The SU Marching Band will perform its pre-game show in front of the center on the corner of College Place and University Place at 6:45 p.m.

Beginning with the Sept. 14 football game, SU vs. Rhode Island, “Orange Friendzy” will be held under a tent on the SU Quad two hours before kickoff, and the Marching Band will resume its tradition of performing on the Quad prior to the game.

Rosh Hashanah services, sponsored by Hillel, are as follows:

  • Friday, Sept. 6: Evening services, 5:30 p.m., Hendricks Chapel followed by dinner in the Schine Underground;

  • Saturday, Sept. 7: Morning services, 10 a.m., Hendricks Chapel followed by lunch in the Noble Room, located in the basement of Hendricks Chapel;

  • Saturday, Sept. 7: Evening services, 5:30 p.m., Hendricks Chapel;

  • Sunday, Sept. 8: Morning services, 10 a.m., Hendricks Chapel;

  • Sunday, Sept. 8: Evening services, 5:30 p.m., Hendricks Chapel.
