2016 University Scholars Selected

Twelve graduating seniors have been named as the 2016 Syracuse University Scholars, the highest undergraduate honor the University bestows.

University Scholars will represent the entire graduating class at the Sunday, May 15, Commencement ceremony. On Wednesday, May 11, the scholars will be honored at a reception at the Chancellor’s residence hosted by Chancellor Kent Syverud and Dr. Ruth Chen, at which they will receive special medallions to be worn at Commencement.

The Syracuse University Scholars Selection Committee, a Universitywide faculty committee, selected the 2016 scholars using criteria that included coursework and academic achievement, independent research and creative work, a personal statement and faculty letters of recommendation.

The 2016 Syracuse University Scholars are:
• Alice Blank, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Lisa Chan, School of Architecture and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Cora Cool-Mihalyi, School of Education;
• Adrian Hatch, School of Information Studies;
• Kaitlyn Hobson, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Terry Jones, College of Visual and Performing Arts and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Eun-Jin Kim, College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Mailyn Nishaguchi, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Veronica Ortiz-Calderon, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Robert Swanda, Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program;
• Samantha Usman, College of Arts and Sciences and Renée Crown University Honors Program; and
• Joshua Woods, College of Engineering and Computer Science and Renée Crown University Honors Program.
