The Division of Student Affairs has announced the appointment of Laura E. Sanders as director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. The appointment comes after an extensive search process led by a search committee composed of students from the Greek community and staff members from across campus.

Sanders joins Syracuse University from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y.  She brings more than a decade of higher education experience to the position, including prior experience in Greek life at Randolph-Macon College; California State University, Fresno; and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She also brings prior experience as assistant dean of students at Cornell University where much of her focus was advising student leaders from the Greek community. In her various roles, she has worked with numerous fraternity and sorority chapters, as well as the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Letter Council, Order of Omega and Panhellenic Council.

“We are pleased to welcome Laura to Syracuse University and the Division of Student Affairs,” says Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, senior vice president and dean of student affairs.  “We have a vibrant, engaged Greek community on campus and under Laura’s leadership, I know we will continue to see great development within the Greek community.”

Sanders’ academic and professional experiences have spanned multiple areas of student affairs in addition to Greek Life, including residence life, first-year programs, judicial affairs and leadership. Each of these experiences has shaped her passion for student development and her strong commitment to the Greek Life community.

“As someone who greatly valued my own Greek experience, I look forward to supporting the many students involved in Greek life at Syracuse University,” says Sanders. “I feel passionately about meeting students where they are, helping them learn new things about themselves and the world, and working with them to make their community one in which they are proud.”

In addition to her experience advising Greek chapters, governing councils and student leaders, Sanders’ also brings experience developing programs, conducting trainings, managing budgets and serving as the primary liaison for institutions’ Greek community.

Sanders earned a bachelor’s degree in history and German at Denison University and a master’s degree in student affairs and higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is an active volunteer with her sorority chapter, a trained low ropes facilitator and a published poet. Her appointment begins this month.
