The College of Law will be holding its sixth Valor Day event on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dineen Hall. Representatives from more than a dozen organizations will provide free legal, financial, career and counseling services for veterans, active duty service members and their immediate families.
One-on-one services available during Valor Day include legal consultations with attorneys who specialize in veterans’ legal issues, personal tax return reviews, resume critiques, retirement and investment strategies, and credit counseling. The event will include a veterans’ information fair with representatives from more than a dozen veteran and government organizations on site.
“Valor Day offers many practical resources for our service members and veterans to help them receive the right benefits, better position themselves for employment or properly file a tax return,” says Yelena Duterte, director of the College of Law’s Veterans Legal Clinic. “The advice and counsel is provided in private sessions, ensuring each unique client receives information specific to their situation.”
Valor Day is coordinated by VISION (Veterans Issues, Support Initiative and Outreach Network), a student-run College of Law organization. Since its inception in 2012, Valor Day has assisted more than 280 veterans and their families by providing access directly to services they need the most.
