CASE Center Selected for Center of Advanced Technology Award

The Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE) has been notified that it has been re-designated as a New York State Center for Advanced Technology. The award, $921,000 a year renewable for up to 10 years, was announced by Empire State Development (ESD), New York State’s economic development agency.

CASEAccording to Howard Zemsky, president and CEO of ESD, CASE’s proposal was among the best in a very competitive field. The Centers for Advanced Technology support university-industry collaborative research and technology transfer to accelerate growth in the New York State economy.

“We are looking forward to partnering with CASE to assist with job creation through the development and commercialization of technologies in New York,” says Zemsky.
CASE serves as a portal, connecting the faculty and students of the University to the New York business community. CASE faculty and students work with industry partners to turn raw data into useable knowledge, creating tools and delivering insights that capitalize on the vast quantities of digital information flooding the marketplace.

“All of us at CASE are honored by the award, and thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the New York State business community,” says CASE Director Pramod Varshney. “We are proud of all we have accomplished with our industry partners.”

According to Andrew Drozd, president of ANDRO Computational Solutions, LLC, “This is an awesome development. This will continue an over 20-year tradition of cutting-edge research in cooperation with CASE that benefits my company, our customers and global interests. I am extremely glad that CASE will be around for another 10 years and hopefully much longer.”

Liz Liddy, the University’s interim vice chancellor and provost, says “I am delighted that CASE has again been recognized by the state for the excellent work it has done and continues to do to drive innovation and economic growth through University-industry collaboration. The center not only has generated hundreds of new jobs for the region; it has created incredible applied research, internship and networking opportunities for our students and faculty. This is a win all around for the University, for industry, for the region and for New York State.”

CASE is New York State’s premier applied research center for interdisciplinary expertise in complex information intensive systems, including “big data” analytics, predictive analysis, information fusion, computational intelligence, wireless communications and networks, cybersecurity and data/network assurance. Since 1999, CASE has helped create 680 new jobs, helped to retain more than 250 jobs threatened in New York State and has helped generate an economic impact of more than $475 million dollars, including $320 million in new revenue created by CASE industry projects, according to data certified by New York State Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (NYSTAR).

Senator John A. DeFrancisco says, “I’ve been a longtime supporter of CASE at Syracuse University as it continues to have a positive impact on our local and statewide economies. This new award will allow CASE to continue its mission of bringing together various local industries and the university through advanced research, education and incubation.”

“CASE at Syracuse University is one of the premier research facilities in the state that connects SU faculty and students to the New York business community,” says Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli. “This award will sustain the progress achieved so far by CASE and insure that this public-private partnership continues for the next 10 years creating a vital regional economic engine and new jobs.”
