The Division of Student Affairs has named Missy Mathis-Hanlon as the interim director of the Parents Office. Mathis-Hanlon’s appointment follows the previous director Colleen Bench’s appointment as associate vice president of Student Affairs.

In this interim role, Mathis-Hanlon will serve as the primary liaison between parents and the University, responding to their concerns and emergencies. She will plan and implement parent activities for Syracuse Welcome and Family Weekend and she will oversee the communications to/from parents and family members—both print and on-line.
“Missy brings great experience and knowledge of this important constituency,” says Bench. “Missy has been a vital staff member to the Parents Office and I am pleased she will be able to continue her great work with parents and families in this new capacity.”
Mathis-Hanlon joined the Parents Office in 2001, following five years as the assistant to the senior vice president and dean of Student Affairs. Prior to this appointment, Mathis-Hanlon served as the associate director for the Parents Office.
A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Mathis-Hanlon earned a master’s degree in higher education from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology from Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. Mathis-Hanlon is also a 2006 graduate of the Leadership Greater Syracuse program.
