The College of Law will be holding its fifth Valor Day event on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dineen Hall. Representatives from more than 30 organizations will be providing free legal, financial, career and counseling services for veterans, active duty service members and their immediate families. Valor Day, or Veterans’ Advocacy, Law and Outreach, is a leading example of College of Law students giving back in a tangible manner to those who have served.
Services available during Valor Day include legal consultations with attorneys who specialize in veterans’ legal issues, tax return reviews, resume critiques and credit counseling. The event will include a veterans’ information fair with representatives from more than 30 veteran and government organizations on site to discuss their services.
“This event is designed to bridge the gap between those who have or are serving our nation and the information, resources and contacts often required to ensure they receive the benefits that are owed to them and getting any help they need,” says Yelena Duterte, director of the College of Law’s Veterans Legal Clinic.
Valor Day is coordinated by VISION (Veterans Issues, Support Initiative and Outreach Network), a student-run College of Law organization. Since its inception in 2012, Valor Day has assisted more than 250 veterans and their families by providing direct access to services they need the most.
