The Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Programs is hosting workshops focused on student learning outcomes assessment and related processes. The half-day workshops, which will be held April 1-2, aim to guide faculty and staff on identifying student learning outcomes for all academic degree and co-curricular programs in addition to creating assessment plans.
Professor Emerita Barbara E. Walvoord, of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, will facilitate the workshops. She has consulted with over 350 colleges and universities on the assessment and accreditation process.
“Dr. Walvoord is a well-respected national leader in assessment,” says Associate Provost for Academic Programs Andria Costello Staniec. “She will help us drive our assessment conversation from the department level all the way through campus-wide initiatives.”
The workshops are a continuation of focused assessment work that began last semester with the formation of the University Assessment and Accreditation Committee, presentations at faculty department meetings and review of program specific assessment plans.
“By strengthening Syracuse University’s assessment system we are able to respond to both internal and external stakeholders,” notes Assistant Provost for Academic Programs Jerry Edmonds. “Ultimately our assessment efforts are focused on how well Syracuse University helps our students reach their learning, professional and personal education goals.”
