Francisco Sanin named School of Architecture’s chair of graduate program

Professor Francisco Sanin has been appointed the new chair of the graduate program at the Syracuse University School of Architecture, effective July 1, 2010. Sanin is internationally known as an urban designer and noted for his extensive research in the history and theory of urban form.

Recently promoted to the rank of full professor, Sanin was the coordinator of Syracuse Architecture’s Florence center from 2004-2008, where he is credited with reinvigorating the program, particularly through a series of public events that included symposia and workshops presented in collaboration with the Targetti Foundation. Sanin follows Mark Linder, chair of graduate programs since fall 2005.

Sanin has taught at Princeton University; the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London; and the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. He has been a visiting professor in schools around the world, including the Korean National University of Arts, Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas, UPB in Medellin, Colombia and Miami University. His recent projects include the Jeonju Student Center in Seoul, South Korea and the Waldhaus housing development He is also the advisor for a new master plan in Beijing, China.
