Interim Vice Chancellor and Provost Liz Liddy today announced that LaVonda N. Reed, professor in the College of Law, will join the Office of the Provost as associate provost for faculty affairs.

In her new capacity, Reed will be a senior leader in Academic Affairs with a portfolio of responsibilities designed to facilitate and support faculty success in academic life. She will play a key role in such areas as faculty searches, new faculty orientation, professional development of department chairs, and mentoring and growth of faculty, among other key responsibilities.
“I am extremely excited to have LaVonda join Academic Affairs in this critically important capacity,” says Provost Liddy. “She is extraordinarily qualified, both in terms of her scholarly achievements and in terms of the values she brings to her work and her relationships with students and colleagues. I know she is going to be a tremendous asset in assuring that our faculty get the support and opportunities they need to continue to thrive and grow as scholars and teachers.”

A member of the College of Law faculty since 2006, Reed teaches and conducts research in the areas of wills and trusts, property, and communications law and policy. She also is a past fellow of Syracuse’s Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics and the Media. Before coming to Syracuse, she was a member of the faculty at the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. Prior to that, she was an attorney in private practice with the international law firm of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker LLP and a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Donald W. VanArtsdalen of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Reed will assume her new duties Feb. 23, while also continuing to fulfill her current teaching responsibilities in the law school.
