Organist Robin Jenkins will perform in a Rising Star Recital, part of the Malmgren Concert Series, Sunday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The program will include pieces by Louis Vierne, Nicholas Bruhns, J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann, Cesar Franck and Olivier Messiaen.
Immediately after the concert, there will be a reception in the Noble Room of Hendricks Chapel.
Robin Jenkins
Jenkins has performed across the United States in such venues as St. Louis’ Christ Church Cathedral, the Sheldon Concert Hall, Cleveland’s Trinity Lutheran Church and twice at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. A 2012 graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with degrees in both piano and organ performance, she finished a master’s degree in organ performance and church music from Mercer University in May 2014. She has performed solo piano concerti with the Washington University Symphony, the Webster University Symphony, the Belleville Philharmonic, the Alton Symphony, the University City Symphony and the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra at Powell Symphony Hall.
A prizewinner in several national and international competitions, her awards include first place in the Fite Family Competition, the St. Louis Young Artists Competition in 2003 and 2005, the St. Louis Italian Federation Competition, the Missouri Western Young Artist Competition, the Webster University Piano Duet Competition and second prizes in the Lennox International Young Artists competition, and at the regional level of the Music Teacher’s National Association Competition.
In 2010, she was a finalist in the Corpus Christi International Young Artists’ Competition, the HELLAM Young Artists’ Competition and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music’s Arthur Dann Piano Competition. She has twice been a recipient of the Webster University Community Music School’s Gregory A. Courtney Scholarship, four Ladies’ Friday Musical Club Awards Scholarships, two Buder Foundation Grants, and Oberlin Conservatory’s Dean Scholarship and Wheeler Scholarship. She is a Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society member.
As a chamber musician, Jenkins has twice competed in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. She has attended summer festivals, including the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the International Institute for Young Musicians, the Indiana University Piano Academy, the Innsbrook Institute and the Eastern Music Festival, where she was a finalist in the concerto competition. Her piano teachers have included Robert Shannon, Alvin Chow, Jack Winerock, Zena Ilyashov and Marie Garritson Jureit-Beamish.
